Only the Rats Know the Way

Unshowered shadows navigating neon-less streets by candlelight,
Diving in the dark to outrun the indoor cold,

It’s a mass exodus across bridge by bootstrap red brick project paradise,
City Sandy stained like it’s a seventies trash barrel bon fire fun house without the smoke and mirrors,
Hear the gennies hum,
Pumping life back into the twitter feeds fed by the borough to borough refugee movement,
Modern day water world with tunnel tongue vision filled with sewage seeping from leaky fridge,
Unshowered shadows navigating neon-less streets by candlelight,
Diving in the dark to outrun the indoor cold,
Finding solace in the old style solidarity like sardines in an open tin,
Beware the alley cats who rule the endless night,
Alas,
A Russian mad man in military garb gets heard for the first time homeless before hurricane…
And still the line for coffee is the longest on the block.
