Need to get your fancypants on? H&M is launching a line of eco-friendly partywear for spring. Inspired by old Hollywood glamour, the Swedish retailer’s “Conscious Exclusive” collection features better-for-the-planet materials such as organic cotton, recycled polyester, recycled polyamide, and Tencel. The formal duds are a step up from the high-street label’s typical fare, with sweeping gowns and natty suits for women, plus “rock-and-roll red-carpet style” that brings “real attitude to spring tailoring” for men, according to Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M’s head of design.

Standout pieces for ladies include a dusty-pink floor-length backless dress made from 100 percent recycled polyester, a sharply cut organic-cotton blazer-and-trouser combo, a loose off-white kimono with a “bohemian air of faded glamour,” and a vintage-y cream frock with sheer sleeves, an asymmetric train, and embroidered swallows.

For the gents? A slim-fitted jacket with dramatic fringing down the back of both sleeves, a collarless shirt with an attached bow tie (“elegant when tied and dandyish when left undone,” pipes Johansson), and a white three-piece tuxedo with old-fashioned button braces on the trousers.

“I love how this collection has pure glamour and style, and is made from more sustainable materials,” Johansson says. “For us at H&M, it’s natural to think about sustainability, and to have it at the heart of our work.”

The Conscious Exclusive collection debuted online and in 140 H&M stores worldwide on April 4.
