New York Fashion Week Abacaxi Brings the Himalayan Desert to Launch NYC Fashion Week
For her Fall/Winter 2014 collection, designer Sheena Sood drew from the Himalayan desert of Ladakh for inspiration.

Leave it to Manufacture New York to put the “New York” in “New York Fashion Week.” The fashion-incubator-cum-factory made sartorial history on Wednesday when it kicked off Launch NYC, an eight-day runway-and-showroom experience that placed “made in the U.S.A.” in the front row. Among the designers feted? Abacaxi (pronounced uh-bah-ka-shee), a Brooklyn-grown label that reimagines ethically sourced traditional textiles, including hand-loomed silk and wool herringbone tweed, into playful wearables.
