As part of the international Street Seats Competition hosted by Design Museum Boston, Radlab Inc. looked to the natural phenomenon of channeling (the consequence of erosion) for inspiration for their entry. The negative/positive relationship of what remains and what has eroded was explored as both a form instantiator and form producer in their design. Channels were milled into the seating surface of a bench composed of spruce joists reclaimed from the Mt. Tom Paper Mill in Holyoke, MA. The mill was built in the 1880s, and destroyed by fire in March of 2012.
