The crazy cats are at it again, but this time a rodent joins the journey. Here we premiere their new music video for “Cumbia Call”. Same horns, more clay. Enjoy!

Citizen Brooklyn: When we featured you last year, you mentioned a video that was two years in the making that would be “sort of a psychedelic animation with images of us and stop motion and a lot of puppets” and that it would be “scary actually, but humorous and nice”. Can we assume that this is the video you were talking about?
It is the video we were talking about, but it’s morphed from a lot of those original concepts. In the last year we took time off from touring to write and record a new record, “The Enchanted Mesa” (which was just released earlier this month on Winter & Winter records).

CBK: Why did this video take so long to create?
Uh… It’s claymation.

CBK: There seems to be some thought put into these claymation animals. Is there a backstory on any of these characters? How did they come to be?
Sort of a twisted take on the traditional cat & mouse cartoons. The wily mouse who wins, the stupid cat that gets outsmarted. More “Itchy and Scratchy” than “Tom & Jerry, but the characters changed in the process of making their molds. They turned out a little different than expected. There were some nice surprises between my original concepts and the final products!

CBK: Can you explain the story line in the video? Is it purely imaginative or does it parallel anything in real life?
Yes. It’s a classic NYC story we can all relate to. Our hero (the mouse) is trying to sleep in his cozy little bed, but the neighbors are having a rocking party next door. He can’t sleep, so gets up, but accidentally falls down the sink pipe. He meets some other odd journey travelers ala a 1970’s Disney “Unusual Adventure” tale. They go back to the oven, he lights them all on fire, and he can finally get to sleep!

CBK: Do you have plans for more videos like this?
YES! TWO MORE are in the primordial phase. But I’m afraid to tell you the storyboards, in case they change in the next year before we unveil them. Then I’ll have to explain why it took so long to get them made.

CBK: What else do you have planned for this upcoming year?
We’re going on tour in April. Gonna play some shows in Northern Italy (including a fun one in Venice), as well as some big festivals in Germany. Probably some more touring in the fall as well, but that still hasn’t been confirmed.
