As far as New York City garage rock bands go, Raccoon Fighter has more soul than most. The trio’s eight-track debut, “ZIL”, seems more emotive and less cold-shoulder than your run-of-the-mill indie outfits—still suited for backroom brawling, leather-clad hipsters, but done in a way that seems somehow real and truthful. Unforced, natural. You can tell this is the music they’re meant to be playing.

For CBK, the band gave us a stripped-down rendition of their song “My Ticket”. A slight divergence from their usual styling, the bare-boned version feels fitting for a lonesome travel through the Southwestern desert—smoky blues, twangy guitars, and rattlin’ percussion to guide us home.
