Techno music, big boobs, and giant cars… I don’t know about you, but I always associated design with intelligence. Maybe I’m wrong, because I walk into this car show and see combinations without logic: a Ferrari sandwiched between pickup trucks accessorized with trailer. There seems to no theme, with price ratios reminiscent of the world’s wealth distribution. Even a boat found its way into the delirium. A lack of curation, if you will; the feeling if I paid the fee I could show off my nephew’s tricycle, muddy wheels and all. The boat, in particular, seems out of place in its funeral attire, resting on a sheet of purple velvet, covered in potted plastic flowers. All we need is a big portrait of its previous owner in order to pay our respects.

At least, I thought, if their was little beauty in the cars, the girls would make up for it (as is often the case). Alas, I found myself more often staring into the giant eyes of a massive cardboard hamster or ogling the stuffed faces of teddy bears. Even Batman and Iron Man made appearances.

What is going on here? Has the male machismo become so fragile that the presence of an out of their league model is too much to bear? Maybe they thought the superheroes would do better for their ego. C’mon tough guy, let’s go take a picture with Superman… It’ll make for a great souvenir.
