Hunter Becomes the Hunted

We are hunters. Not of beasts, but of evil. We are Vampire Slayers. Ordained in our mission.

It was just shy of 3 in the morning. We knew where he would head after being shot with the blessed and anointed arrow by my partner, Leo.

We are hunters. Not of beasts, but of evil. We are Vampire Slayers. Ordained in our mission. Leo is my equal in our devotion to our quest. We both lost our wives, and young ones to the same coven. We have tracked and destroyed all eight of the unholy Nosferatu. One remained. Him. We do not even know his name. We need not know it to accomplish what is our calling.

The crypt door was massive. It took both of us to move it just enough to squeeze into the opening. We knew he was wounded. But how bad? This one’s strength is beyond describing. We have witnessed it first-hand. Entering the crypt. Weapons of divine purpose at the ready. My light scanned the interior. He was lying on his back upon his ancient coffin. He did not even attempt to seek its sanctuary by opening it. He was dead for the second time during his time on this Earth. His body was already starting to crumble. His many years was finally coming to claim him.

In his left hand he held something. A crucifix. With his wound being mortal, this token of his former self must have been held dear to him. He clutched it in death. Perhaps God, will have mercy on his soul. Only God could … for Leo and I have none.

Oh Mary. You are so very kind. How sweet of you. Your encouraging words are so greatly valued. Thank you. I have been considering writing about some chickens. Do you know or have you been around any? (Smile)
