Hipster taco trucks—bastions of beards, word-of-mouth, and budget eats—have been springing up everywhere, so it’s no surprise that one has found its way into the lineup at the Hudson Square Food Truck Court. México Blvd. attracts a long line of hungry, Pavement T-shirt-wearing eaters, for bites like the Adobo torta ($8), a decent sandwich that, as a result of its $8 price tag, leaves a bit to be desired.
Built around a moderate helping of adobo-marinated shredded pork, the sandwich stacks lettuce, tomato, onion, pickled jalapeño, pickled carrot, and avocado (in this case their tasty guacamole) on a slightly pressed white roll. While the roll is fresh and quite good, it’s a bit too large for the insides. Moreover, the adobo pork, while perfectly moist, is unassertive and forgettable, though the guacamole/carrot/jalapeño combination does deepen the flavor. Adding one of the three salsas (green, red or extra hot) helps out the sandwich slightly; although they are admittedly one-note (read: hot) sauces. México Blvd. doesn’t make the best torta in town, but if a torta craving hits in Tribeca, LIC or DUMBO, it’s an adequate choice in a pinch.
